Avonlea Train Station

I was thrilled to learn that the Avonlea Train Station from seasons 6 & 7 is actually a real place and not a set!  It is located at the Dundas Valley Conservation area near Hamilton, ON. The address is 649 Governor's Road, Dundas, ON. After you park it is a short walk through beautiful woods to the train station.

The sign even had a blurb about Road to Avonlea :) (with behind-the-scenes pics!)

It was also used in Lantern Hill.

And.... the train car was there that Felicity and Hetty get off of when bringing Gus back! :)  (with a wasp nest, so be careful!) :(

Spadina House

This is the Spadina House, which is located at 285 Spadina Road, Toronto, ON. There is parking located next door at Casa Loma. This house was used in Road to Avonlea as Captain Ames' house in "The Return of Gus Pike" in season 6. Remember when Felicity and Felix go to the house so Felicity can give Gus his ring back? This is the place!

The scene was shot on these steps :)

And they came in this door :)

This is the sitting room, which wasn't used in the series, but a lovely room anyway....

This is a side garden room that was used as the room where Charlotte Ames serves the Kings and Gus tea. Strawberry tarts anyone?

This house is worth the visit! It is beautiful and has a wonderful gift shop in the basement.

Squires Beach

Squires Beach is home to some of the shore scenes from various seasons- including season 6's episode "The Return of Gus Pike." Remember when Gus runs past the tree and fence in pursuit of his mother?

From the Road to Avonlea websiteThe Devil’s Pulpit scene was actually filmed on a section of waterfront land known as Squires Beach in Pickering, Ontario. This was also the site of Felix’s Tea House in Season 5 and the burned Dale Cannery in Season 7.

Squires beach was kind of hard to find, because you can't just Google it and get accurate results. So, I found a road called "Squires Beach Road" on Google and since I had a GPS we just drove on it toward Lake Ontario. We drove through a warehouse district and were wondering if we would find anything, but came out into an area with lots of trees, parked cars, a walking/biking path, and Lake Ontario. We also found the exact spot (in my opinion) where Gus runs past the tree! :) The coordinates for this spot are:  N43 49.000 / W079 02.350.

My picture doesn't show it super well, but there is an old fence next to the tree, which matches the shot of Gus running.

This was the only shot I could find of Gus, but if you watch the episode, this has to be where they filmed it. :)

Pickering Village Museum

Pickering Village Museum is located at 2365 6th Concession Road, Greenwood (Pickering), ON. I find it cool that it is on the same road as the Avonlea Set... kind of funny actually :)

It was a pleasant walk through the woods to the actual village, complete with a bridge and a creek when entering the village.

Inside the Bible Christian Chapel-

There was information outside the building that detailed how it was used in Avonlea

The Avonlea Town Hall (especially used in season 1)

Inside the hall- was used in The Materializing of Duncan and also Felicity's Challenge
They don't normally have the hall open, but we asked if someone could open it and there was a staff person who opened it for us, saying that she gives the "Avonlea Tours" :)

I can just picture Sara running into the hall to tell Marilla that Duncan McTavish has come to Avonlea.

Rainbow Valley

Just to the west of Leaskdale was the place that L.M. Montgomery thought of as "Rainbow Valley." :)

It is beautiful :)

Leaskdale Manse & Church

Our next stop was Leaskdale, Ontario, which was about 10 miles north of Uxbridge on Concession 7.

L.M. Montgomery lived in Leaskdale from 1911-1926 before moving to Toronto.

The Manse: Absolutely beautiful old house! The brick is all restored.

Entryway-- love the colors! Thankfully, L.M.M. wrote down all of the details of her house in her journals, so they have been able to duplicate everything in the house.

Library

Gog & Magog

Dining room: Which L.M.M. didn't like, because it was too small :)

Kitchen

Spare bedroom, with the most lovely knitted bedspread :)

Upstairs hall

The Church, which was just down the road from the Manse

Inside the Church

In the basement of the Church there is a museum with lots of pictures of L.M. Montgomery, and also pictures of the Avonlea Set

And a poster for the show!

Avonlea Set & Church

Uxbridge: Home to the where the Avonlea sets were located and the Pine Grove Church, plus the fabulous scenery that was Avonlea....

The Road to the Avonlea Sets (the 6th Concession) from Uxbridge, ON

The Avonlea Set is located at 3767 6th Concession Road, Uxbridge, ON. There is actually a place to pull off to stop to take pictures (probably from all of the people that stop there!)

There was an old shed that reminded me of Avonlea.... and a new shed that probably wasn't there during filming!

The house is now tan :)

So the level place on the right side of the picture (by the trees) must have been where the schoolhouse was?

I was surprised that the driveway to the house still has red rocks! Yes, I stopped and picked a small one up :)

Next: Pine Grove Church, which is located at 4185 7th Concession Road, Uxbridge, ON; it is about 2 minutes from the Avonlea Set.

I was surprised that there is a graveyard just to the right of the Church, back in the trees. It reminded me of the Anne books (and Avonlea of course!) :)
